A New TV

Here Criswell predicts on my new TV. The old one still works, but nobody wants a 15-year-old set.

A Lovely Scent

The other day ( a hot day) Julie, Sue, and I noticed that the outdoors part of the Harvard campus smelled lovely. Sue said that they had sprayed with clove oil to repel mosquitoes. (Owing to an abnormally wet summer, the local mosquitoes have increased to plague-like proportions.) How often does it happen that something as pleasant as clove oil repels your blood enemies?

You Can Eat Squash Blossoms

According to my friend Julie, Squash blossoms can be stuffed and fried. So if I ever get stuck at work, I suppose I could live off my window ledge harvest.

Home Ownership

A few days ago I noticed that my bathroom sink stopper had broken free from the pin that held it to the thing that makes it go up and down. Naturally I called our building super.
Well, he called me at work to report that the whole pipe underneath the sink had rotted to an alarming degree. So what looked like a small problem would actually cost about $500.
This is my 12th year as a condo-owner, so I'm hardened to to home-repair prices, but I thought it was a great opportunity to use some of my clip art from the 1920s and 30s.

Jammin'

I'm on my third bread machine, and finally I tried out the jam setting. Last night I made kiwi, strawberry, pineapple jam. Your local grocery store has fruit pectin that works with low or no sugar, if you like jam that is not too sweet. I tried making blueberry jam without pectin, and it was more like sauce.
